About Bedwas Workmen's Hall
The focal point of many towns and villages across the valleys in the early 20th century was the local miners' institute. Bedwas Workmen’s Hall, which opened in 1923, was built with penny a week donations from local miners plus a grant from the owner of the local colliery, Sir Samuel Instone. It housed a public hall, library, cinema, dance hall and billiards hall.
Bedwas Workmen's Hall is a three-storey Grade II listed building that continues to serve the local community offering a venue for a number of local groups including drama and dance schools and craft groups.
There has been a large range of paranormal activity at the hall in the past. There have been reports of seeing an apparition of a woman on the balcony and a young boy on the stage in the theatre room with chairs moving up and down and doors slamming. There has also been sights of a man in a stovepipe hat throughout the building. Visitors and staff report the feeling of never being alone and have heard piano music playing despite there not being a piano there at the time. They have also had objects moving with no explanation or items being mysteriously lost. This is certainly a building bursting with activity.Â
